Patrick M. Campanelli brings nearly four decades of legal experience to his role as Of Counsel at Hortsman & Campanelli. A seasoned trial attorney and former prosecutor, Mr. Campanelli has built a distinguished career marked by integrity, courtroom excellence, and a steadfast commitment to justice.



After earning his J.D. from UIC – John Marshall Law School, Mr. Campanelli was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1986. He began his legal career as a prosecutor with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, where he spent 11 years handling complex and high-stakes criminal cases. In 1997, he transitioned to private practice, founding his own firm and dedicating his practice exclusively to criminal defense.


Over the years, Patrick has represented thousands of clients and tried hundreds of cases before both juries and judges. He has argued before the Illinois Supreme Court and played a role in shaping significant legal precedents in the state. His deep knowledge of criminal law and reputation for fearless advocacy have earned him respect throughout Illinois’ legal community.

In addition to his courtroom work, Mr. Campanelli has contributed to legal education as an instructor at Joliet Junior College and Northwestern University, mentoring future legal professionals and sharing insights from his extensive legal career.


Mr. Campanelli is married to Amy Campanelli, the current Public Defender Director for Muskegon County, Michigan and former Chief Public Defender of Cook County, Illinois. Together, they share a lifelong commitment to public service and criminal justice reform.
